Community Board for Police Accountability (2025->)

This page includes information about the Community Board for Police Accountability (CBPA), which was created by a ballot initiative in November 2020 that changed the City Charter, designed by the Police Accountability Commission (PAC- 2021-2023), and established in City Code in 2024.

The CBPA will oversee the Office of Community-led Police Accountablity (OCPA), which will investigate complaints and incidents of possible police misconduct. In a subset of cases, including force and deadly force incidents, the CBPA will determine if officers violated policy and impose discipline if appropriate.

Apply to be on the board

On February 28, 2025 the City posted applications to join the CBPA. At the time it was first posted, there were several problems with the application in that it emphasizes people with no experience should apply and doesn't mention that cases will include deadly force reviews. The application can be found on the City's job listing website.

NEW! 3/13/25 Check out the questions on the CBPA application.

Deadline to apply is April 14, 2025.

On March 5, 2025 former members of the Police Accountability sent an email to the City Attorney's office outlining questions and concerns about the process and substance of the application process.

NEW! 3/13/25 See the reply from the City's CBPA coordinator, Kristen Thorp dated March 7, 2025. [Note: the City also published this letter on their public records site, albeit without the header/footer.]

many of which persist in 2025.
